The Sundar Prize Film Festival aims to recognize and showcase films that use impactful and informative storytelling to raise awareness and inspire action on critical social causes and issues. The festival’s goal is to celebrate filmmakers who are committed to creating positive social impact and promoting empathy, understanding, and social justice.

The theme of the 2024 Sundar Prize Film Festival is “Celebrating Human Resilience” and screenings will take place June 15-16, 2024.

Nine prize-winning films have been announced two months ahead of the Surrey screening. 3 B.C. films were selected as winners of this year’s festival:

Best BC Film

DIL RAKH: GLOVES OF KIN (Canada, 2023) Directed by Dalj Brar

After spending 20 years in prison, an Indian father attempts to reconcile with his estranged son while they battle racism in a small town.

 

 

KDocsFF Best Emerging Filmmaker

CASH COWS (Canada, 2023) Directed by Shubham Chhabra

CASH COWS follow the journey of an Indian immigrant who falls victim to an employment scam.  Desperate to secure a permanent residency and a better life, he must confront the true cost of the sacrifices he’s made.

 

Best Environmental Film

REMATRIATION (Canada, 2023) Directed by Alexi Liotti

Rematriation explores scientific, cultural, economic, and sociopolitical perspectives, as citizens fight to protect the last big trees in British Columbia from being felled. The lessons we take away permeate the fabric of Canadian identity.
