Vancouver Animation and VFX Studios Celebrated at the 98th Academy Awards

British Columbia’s animation and visual effects industry made a strong showing at the 98th Academy Awards, with B.C. studios and artists contributing to all five nominated films for Best Visual Effects and taking home multiple wins on the night.

AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, with key contributions from Industrial Light & Magic and Wētā FX. Meanwhile, KPOP DEMON HUNTERS earned two wins for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden,” with Vancouver’s own Sony Pictures Imageworks playing a central role in bringing the film to life.

The 98th Academy Awards were hosted by Conan O’Brien at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
