BC Book Day kicks off this year’s Creative Industries Week that brings industry associations, key stakeholders, and creators together with government for a showcase event.

BC Book Day invites all British Columbians to celebrate the province’s book and magazine publishers! These are the creators and companies who connect us to each other through local stories and a distinctively west coast Canadian perspective on the world.

BC Book Day 2023

Supporting the long-term health and success of the Canadian-owned book industry in British Columbia, the Association of Book Publishers of BC coordinates BC Book Day each year and partners with the Magazine Association of BC in 2023 for a double celebration of writing culture and critical thinking in the province.

Held at the B.C. Legislature, government and industry will converge to meet, develop, and celebrate the literary ecosystem of our province. B.C. publishers, authors, festival directors, librarians, booksellers, magazine publishers, editors, writers and page lovers alike will together raise awareness of B.C.’s publishing ecosystem and its social, cultural, and economic contributions.

British Columbia’s book publishing industry is the second largest English-language book publishing region in Canada, with more than 46 award-winning publishers operating in several regions, including the Southern Interior, the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland, and the province’s magazine industry publishes more than 280 magazine titles.

Did you know?
In 2021, book publishing and magazine publishing combined to contribute $190M Total GDP and $205M in Output to the provincial economy, with over 2,700 people estimated to work in these creative fields.

More than 270 businesses beyond this nucleus of B.C.’s publishing industry contribute to its economy and success through distribution, sales, education, safekeeping and public access. B.C. brings Canadian writing and culture to a global audience, exporting to more than 40 countries each year.
