B.C. Motion Picture Industry Raised $1.79 Million for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank through the 2024 REEL Thanks Challenge!

The REEL Thanks Challenge is an annual two-week fundraising event where various film and television productions around British Columbia compete to see who can raise the most funds in support of The Greater Vancouver Food Bank, providing healthy food to those in need.

This year, the REEL Thanks Challenge returns for its 11th year, running from October 1 to 11, with 20 teams competing neck and neck. Team When Calls the Heart took the top prize, raising $55,240.17. Wild Cards and Fire Country came in second and third, raising $48,525 and $34,860, respectively. In total, the challenge has raised $214,354 in 2024, achieving 142% of its goal and surpassing the target of $150,000.

The participating teams in 2024 are: Allegiance, Casket Girls, Devon House 2 (aka The Old Guard 2), Diner Bear (aka Avatar: The Last Airbender), Fire Country, The Hunting Party, The Irrational, Kanji (aka Invasion), Mink Golden (aka Percy Jackson and the Olympians), Rock Springs, Shiver, My Weird School, Sight Unseen, Tracker, The Thundermans, Yellowjackets, Watson, past winner When Calls the Heart, Wild Cards, and The Wrong Paris.

Since its inception, this incredible event has raised an outstanding $1.79 million, equivalent to 2.5 million pounds of apples.
