Snotty Nose Rez Kids: Shaping the Future of Hip Hop

As the 2025 JUNO Awards approach, all eyes are on Snotty Nose Rez Kids, the electrifying hip hop duo from Kitimat, B.C. Nominated for three JUNOs this year – Rap Single of the Year for “BBE”, Rap Album of the Year/EP for “RED FUTURE”, and Contemporary Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year – Snotty Nose Rez Kids are set to perform at the awards on March 30, 2025, further solidifying their position as one of Canada’s most exciting musical acts.

The duo began their extraordinary journey in high school, when Haisla rappers and cousins Darren “Young D” Metz and Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce connected as writers. The duo released two albums in 2017, their self-titled debut album, and “The Average Savage”, the latter of which earned them a spot on the 2018 Polaris Music Prize shortlist and multiple nominations, including Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the 2019 JUNO Awards.

With every album release, they continued to build momentum through the authenticity of their work and their bold and unique approach to hip hop. Their third and fourth album, “TRAPLINE” and “Life After”, respectively, were again shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. 2022 saw the release of “I’M GOOD, HBU?” to further critical acclaim, followed by the launch of their highly anticipated sixth studio album “RED FUTURE” in September 2024. Released under Sony Music Canada, “RED FUTURE” is their first major label record and has garnered them significant attention from music publications such as Billboard, Wonderland, and Exclaim!.

“RED FUTURE” explores powerful themes of identity, resilience, and the future of Indigenous culture, a true testament to Snotty Nose Rez Kids’ growth as artists. In addition to their JUNO nominations, the album has been praised by major outlets and publications, while the duo have been making appearances on podcasts and television.

In 2024 alone, Snotty Nose Rez Kids played over 70 shows in Canada and internationally, as well as performed at major sporting events, such as games for the Toronto Maple Leads, Vancouver Canucks, and Toronto Raptors.

With their performance at the prestigious 2025 JUNO Awards just around the corner, Snotty Nose Rez Kids are set to continue their incredible journey as one of the most exciting contemporary hip hop acts. With a dynamic sound and powerful storytelling abilities, they are a beacon of inspiration and an unmissable act who have already made a significant mark on the Canadian music industry.
