Five Made-in-B.C. Games to Help Beat the Heat!

While British Columbia is known for its summer beauty, with ocean views, alpine trails, and forest escapes, it’s also home to something a little more pixel-powered: a growing community of video game creators.

If you’re taking a break from the sun or just looking for something new to play, here are five titles made right here in B.C. They’re a great excuse to stay in and press play, and they showcase the creativity, talent, and range of the province’s game development scene.

 

Kotaku

Rotwood, by Klei Entertainment 

Rotwood is a fast-paced roguelike action brawler developed by Klei Entertainment, the acclaimed indie studio behind hits like Don’t Starve, Mark of the Ninja, and Oxygen Not Included. Set in a lush but corrupted forest teeming with monstrous creatures, Rotwood throws players into an ever-mutating world filled with combat, crafting, and co-op chaos. 

Available via Early Access on Steam.

Snacko, by Bluecurse Studios 

Snacko is a cozy farming and life sim where you play as Momo, a cat who moves to a mysterious island to restore a forgotten village. Grow crops, raise animals, explore magical biomes, and build your dream town. With charming pixel art, deep customization options, and a touch of adventure, Snacko seamlessly blends relaxing gameplay with whimsical storytelling. Made by a husband/wife duo from Victoria, B.C.!

Rift of the Necrodancer, by Brace Yourself Games 

Rift of the NecroDancer is a rhythm-based battle game and a spin-off of Crypt of the NecroDancer. Blending lane-based combat, mini-games, and boss battles synced to music, it delivers fast-paced, beat-matching action with a modern twist. Featuring vibrant visuals and a killer soundtrack, it’s a fresh, standalone rhythm roguelike for fans of music games and monster-mashing mayhem.

Piranha Games

MechWarrior 5: Clans, by Piranha Games
