As the year moves into the holiday season, Read Local BC recently unwrapped their new limited edition book boxes. From now until December 5th while supplies last, readers can purchase three curated book boxes containing local bestsellers and support B.C.’s independent publishers.
Launched in 2015 by Books BC, Read Local BC is a project that celebrates the vibrant community of authors, publishers, bookstores, and libraries that make up our province’s literary landscape. The Book Boxes initiative is the newest addition to the work they do in support of the local book publishing industry, in addition to their weekly bestseller lists, curated reading lists, author interviews, and more.
Refer to their Curator’s Guide to explore the books included in each box and read on to learn about the three featured boxes.

BC Culinary Box
Curated by local bookseller Mary-Ann Yazedjian, bookseller at Black Bond Books and Book Warehouse, the BC Culinary Box features two unique journeys through sensory cooking, tradition, and playful adaptations of classic dishes. These books promise to delight, introduce something new to every cook, and remind us that cooking is a personal act, rooted in family, history, and the ways we share food with others.

Indigenous Voices Box
Curated by local bookseller Hilary Atleo, Co-owner of Iron Dog Books, the Indigenous Voices Box highlights the literary range of three buzz-worthy Indigenous authors. Through a blend of non-fiction, poetry, and language reclamation, these books provide a pathway to discover or rediscover Indigenous literature and inspire both readers and writers in B.C.

Early Readers Box
Curated by local bookseller Kerri Doyle, Chief Reader & Owner of Books & Shenanigans, the Early Readers Box is ideal for budding book fans. It takes an eco-conscious approach, teaching children about native plants and animals and to nurture an appreciation for the natural world. All three books in this collection are B.C. bestselling titles, complete with stunning illustrations.
