The 8th Annual Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival, presented by the Community Arts Council of Vancouver, returns from October 11 to 13 this year, showcasing the work of visual artists and music performers outside mainstream institutions. The festival strives to provide a platform for these artists to share their unique perspectives and artistic visions with the community.

Francis Baptiste

Francis Baptiste is a Vancouver-based singer and songwriter with extensive experience performing at various events, such as Talking Stick Festival, Vancouver Jazz Fest, Music Waste Festival, Rogue Arts Festival, Barnside Harvest Festival, Shipyards Festival, Khatsahlano Festival, and the PNE. He has also released singles from Sneqsilx (Family) that were played on CBC Radio, SiriusXM, and college radio stations across the country. The album received coverage in the Vancouver Sun, Exclaim Magazine, Discorder Magazine, the Times Chronicle, and several music blogs.

Sunny Daydream

Sunny Daydream Chen is an artist, writer, and performer currently based on Coast Salish lands in Vancouver, BC. Born in Nanjing and raised in Langley, Sunny began singing and performing live at the age of three, and started songwriting at eight. In 2021, with support from Creative BC and SOCAN Foundation, Sunny released their independent debut album, “ilyimy”. Sunny’s work has been featured in SAD Mag, Bloom, Contrast Collective, CREEP Magazine, mushroom zine, The Ubyssey, and The Garden Statuary.

M’Girl Music

M’Girl Music’s percussive hand drum songs blend harmonies into a contemporary gospel style, reflecting both their cultural practices and personal stories of home. Led by Renae Morriseau, their music embodies the personal journeys and cultural worldviews of each M’Girl, who respectfully navigates the urban environment of the lower mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Their songs draw from the traditions of the Cree, Ojibway, Saulteaux, and Métis peoples.

Matt Hermano

Matt Hermano is an accomplished singer and songwriter based in British Columbia, born in Vancouver and raised in Surrey. Initially, Matt was very interested in flamenco and Latin music. Over time, he explored other genres and developed a love and respect for all types of music. He represented Canada in the World Competition of Performing Arts, competing in the categories of songwriting, pop, and R&B, where he won three silver medals for Canada.
