On March 11, 2025, award-winning actor Andrew Scott will unveil a curated selection of six standout short films at the SXSW Film & TV Festival Redbreast Unhidden Showcase, presented in partnership with Redbreast Irish Whiskey. Among them is ONE DAY THIS KID, a short film by British Columbia–based filmmaker Alexander Farah, which has already been making an impact on the festival circuit.

ONE DAY THIS KID

The film, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, takes an intimate look at a first-generation Afghan Canadian man as he navigates self-identity and family expectations. Inspired by David Wojnarowicz’s Untitled (One Day This Kid…), the film weaves together small but pivotal moments to tell a deeply personal story. Following its TIFF debut, ONE DAY THIS KID went on to screen at the Chilliwack Independent Film Festival, where it won Best Live Action Short Film.

“It’s an honour to be recognized by such a well-respected, seasoned and phenomenal talent like Andrew Scott. As a short film, we’re so grateful for the platform boost in getting to share our special, home-grown project to more audiences outside Canada.” said director Alexander Farah

Scott, known for his work in “Fleabag” and the upcoming Richard Linklater film BLUE MOON, personally selected ONE DAY THIS KID as part of his SXSW showcase, which features a diverse mix of drama, comedy, and docufiction. The lineup also includes:

  • ENTRE TORMENTAS (Frank Zayas)
  • NERVOUS ENERGY (Eve Lui)
  • SWEETBRIAR (Danny Rivera)
  • BRIEF SOMEBODIES (Andy Reid)
  • I’M THE MOST RACIST PERSON I KNOW (Leela Varghese)

With a growing list of accolades, ONE DAY THIS KID continues to gain momentum, and its inclusion in Scott’s SXSW selection further cements Farah as a filmmaker to watch.
