DigiBC is presenting Creative Technology Day tomorrow, April 16, showcasing the exceptional work of studios across British Columbia in video games, animation, visual effects (VFX), virtual, augmented, and extended reality (VR/AR/XR), and virtual production services.
Creative Industries Week returns from April 14–18, celebrating its 10th year of highlighting the remarkable talent driving B.C.’s creative sectors—from music and sound recording to book and magazine publishing, film and television, and, of course, creative technology. As part of the weeklong festivities, the interactive and digital media industry will also spotlight Creative Technology Day on April 16, recognizing the cutting-edge work happening in animation, video games, visual effects (VFX), and extended reality (XR) across the province.
These industries bring stories to life, entertain millions, and push the boundaries of technology and imagination. Just as importantly, they’re creating high-quality jobs, attracting international investment, and helping to cement B.C.’s reputation as a global creative leader.
At the heart of interactive digital media and creative technology is DigiBC—an organization that works year-round to sustain, advocate for, and grow the industry. Alongside showcasing the sector’s achievements, DigiBC will also be highlighting key programs and initiatives developed in collaboration with industry partners, educators, and the provincial government. These efforts aim to ensure B.C. continues to foster world-class talent while advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion across the sector.
To deliver on that commitment, DigiBC works closely with members and government stakeholders to identify opportunities, remove barriers, and help the industry thrive. Recent efforts include hosting Signals, DigiBC’s annual creative tech expo, and advocating for the Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (IDMTC), which was recently made permanent.
DigiBC also strengthens B.C.’s talent pipeline through collaborations with post-secondary institutions such as Emily Carr, UBC, SFU, BCIT, Capilano University, and the Centre for Digital Media. By bridging the gap between academia, industry, and emerging professionals, DigiBC supports a wide range of talent development programs, including the Work Placement Pilot Program and the DigiConnect mentorship program.
