Celebrates its 28th edition this year from November 7 – 17, the Vancouver Asian Film Festival 2024 (VAFF) highlights an array of unique and outstanding talent, with both emerging and established Asian Canadian and Asian American writers, producers, and directors showcasing their latest work.
This year’s theme is “Empowering Voices, Shaping Tomorrow”, marking its commitment to proactive diversity and inclusion, emphasizing transformative storytelling and practical empowerment. It features 25 film programs, including both feature-length and short films, as well as videos. The lineup includes an Artist/Concept Spotlight, an International Spotlight, International and Canadian Shorts, a Filmmakers Talk Series, the VAFF Industry Insight series, and gala events.

Opening Film: EXTREMELY UNIQUE DYNAMIC
Directed, written, produced, and acted by duo Harrison Xu and Ivan Leung, EXTREMELY UNIQUE DYNAMIC tells the story of two best friends testing the limits of their friendship while making a triple-meta movie during their final weekend together.

Centerpiece Spotlight Film: BLUE SUNSHINE
Aravind, a high school teacher in South India, wants to transition from male to female. Aravind’s parents do not know that Aravind is transitioning and force a marriage upon him. Aravind starts to live as a woman named Bhanu and deals with post-transition issues.
