Puppy Star Christmas (2018) takes a unique spin on talking-dog movies by turning it into a musical. The movie stars four adorable pups who have to save Christmas. Bonus, this one has been personally nibling-approved by my niece and two nephews!
Elf (2003)
Circa 2003-2010, this was the go-to holiday movie of choice at elementary schools across the Lower Mainland. Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) reconnects with his grumpy biological father (James Cann) after being raised in the North Pole alongside Santa’s elves. The story has lots of gags that kids will love, but also reminds the adults in their lives to hold on to their childlike curiosity.
Santa Clause 2 (2002)
A solid follow-up to the Santa Claus (1994), Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin has fully accepted becoming Santa, only to find out that if he doesn’t find a Mrs. Claus by Christmas Eve, he’ll have to say goodbye to the North Pole for good. His son, Charlie (Eric Lloyd), has also ended up on the naughty list! With the tv series The Santa Clauses (2022) releasing on Disney+ this year, the timing it perfect to revisit the original trilogy.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
It isn’t the holidays without watching with glee as a mischievous boy outsmarts adult home-invaders, and the 6th installation in the Home Alone franchise features a star-studded cast. Archie Yates rose to fame in critically-acclaimed Jojo Rabbit (2019) as Yorki, and Ellie Kemper is best known for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015-2019), the Office (2005-2013), and Bridesmaids (2011).
A Christmas Story 2 (2012)
Teenaged Ralphie returns to the screen with a whole new set of problems that don’t involve poking his eye out with a red rider air rifle. Chalk-full of references to A Christmas Story (1983), this movie is a blast to the past that viewers young and old can appreciate.
